This construction site is going to be an orphanage and school for approximately 30 children brought to the village through social care. The orphanage is being built first and once it is up and running, work for building a school alongside it will begin. There is the opportunity to learn about the construction industry from making your own building blocks by hand to the actual construction of the building. Once the outside is finished there will also be a need for plumbers and electricians for help with the kitchen and bathroom block.
This orphanage is alive in the daytime with school pupils and it is great to see the orphans and the children from the local area mixing together whilst gaining an education. Here you choose to work in the classrooms and or help with general duties in the orphanage. They are currently in desperate need for resources, in terms of equipment, teachers and people who could generally help with the day to day running of the orphanage/school.
Do you want to be surrounded by the beauty of the lush green jungle in rural Africa and actually make a difference in this deprived community? We desperately require volunteers who are willing get stuck in and involved in teaching basic English, football, farming and/ or generally helping out in the community. We are also looking for people who could educate the village on health and wellbeing. Any experience welcome!
Safely secluded behind a secure gated development from off the beaten track, Shalom Orphanage shelters and clothes well over 60 children. Surrounded by the tangled green jungle, you really feel like you are in the heart of Africa. The workers would welcome volunteers to come work, play and converse to improve the orphans English and grammar at any time of the year.
There are 73 children at the home and they live very much like a Charles Dickens novel. The children sleep either on the cold floor or 3 to 4 to a bunk bed and most of the children spend their day barefoot because they do not have any shoes. Although these children really live in poverty, they are always smiling and very sweet natured and would love any volunteers to visit.
