Hi there,
I am Camille, the founder of United Playground. I first volunteered with a small organisation in 2003, living and working in both Accra and Ejura, Ashanti Region. Teaching English with barely any materials and living with no running water or electricity was challenging to say the least and it was surprising how accustomed and happy I became to the simple lifestyle.
That was then; this is now. Quite simply, United Playground is a team dedicated to helping people become volunteers.
Our Mission
Our mission is to encourage, educate and help
YOU to become volunteers in schools in Africa. Here at United Playground we take a holistic approach to volunteering.
Extremely important to us is our volunteers experience whilst out in Africa. We want them to be able to communicate with us and our African representatives in order to feel safe and secure. We encourage and welcome all feedback so that we can use this knowledge to improve the experiences of future volunteers.
Just as important is the education and sustainability of the communities we place them in. We put a lot of time and money into building relationships with the schools we work with. Whether its sending them much needed supplies or simply offering advice.
But what makes us different from all of the other organisations?
The difference between us and other organisations that recruit volunteers is that we are affordable. Why should volunteers pay a fortune when they are giving their time and commitment for free? Many of our schools have never received volunteers, so we are looking for independent and outgoing individuals, who would be prepared to take lead in a classroom when required, play football with 20 or so teenagers and generally get in there and have fun!
